With the highly anticipated launch of Shadow of the Erdtree just around the corner, FromSoft has released a 6GB patch that is essential for playing the expansion. The patch brings several headline features, such as new hairstyles, inventory improvements, and summoning quality-of-life tweaks. However, one of the most significant additions is the ability to summon the spectral steed mount, Torrent, during the final boss battle against the Elden Beast. This change has been long speculated by the community and is a welcome addition to enhance the gameplay experience.

In addition to the summoning of Torrent during the final boss battle, the patch also introduces various other notable changes. These include support for the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, five new hairstyles for character customization, and a new Map Functions Menu for easier navigation. Players can now carry over Active Summoning Pools to NG+ and enable/disable Individual Summoning Pools in the Map Functions Menu. The patch also includes new inventory features, such as marking newly obtained items and a “Recent Items” tab for reviewing recent acquisitions.

Furthermore, the patch brings enhancements to display settings, the colosseum feature, and support for the Arabic language. Steam users will benefit from new keyboard/mouse settings, including a “lock-on change threshold” setting and cursor movement behavior adjustments in the map menu. Key assignments for opening the map are also available in the Key Settings menu. Various balance changes to weapons, ashes of war, and great runes have been implemented, both for PvP and general gameplay.

As players delve into the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, they will experience a more compact yet intricate world compared to the base game’s Lands Between. The new realm offers a dense and twisting environment that harbors hidden discoveries and challenging encounters. While exploration in the Shadow of the Erdtree can lead to exhilarating moments reminiscent of the Souls series, it also presents some shortcomings in its open-world design. The interconnected sprawl of the land may overwhelm players with the sheer amount of content, leading to recollection paralysis.

The latest patch for Shadow of the Erdtree introduces significant changes and enhancements to the gameplay experience. The addition of summoning Torrent during the final boss battle enhances combat dynamics and provides players with new strategic options. The various improvements to inventory management, character customization, and navigation contribute to a more streamlined and enjoyable gameplay experience. As players embark on their journey through the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, they can expect to encounter challenging foes, uncover hidden secrets, and explore a dense and captivating world.
