As the release of the highly anticipated Shadow of the Erdtree DLC for Elden Ring approaches, many players may be surprised to learn that accessing the new content is not as straightforward as they might have hoped. Unlike traditional DLC releases that can be easily accessed from the menu, Shadow of the Erdtree is hidden behind two challenging bosses in the game.

To access the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, players must defeat two formidable bosses within the game – Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood. Starscourge Radahn is a prominent threat in the Caelid region and is one of the five shardbearers that players can choose to take down to progress in the main story. On the other hand, Mohg, Lord of Blood, is a more elusive boss found in the Mohgwyn Palace, which can only be reached by using a teleporter in the secret Consecrated Snowfield region.

Finding Mohg in the Mohgwyn Palace is no easy feat, as players must first collect two halves of a secret medallion spread across the Lands Between and use it to access the frosty realm where the palace is located. Additionally, players must defeat an NPC invader to activate the teleporter that grants access to the Mohgwyn Palace. Once inside, players must navigate through a lengthy level and defeat Mohg himself to progress towards unlocking the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.

According to Steam achievement statistics, nearly two-thirds of Elden Ring players on Steam have not defeated Mohg, indicating that many may not be prepared for the upcoming DLC release. Bandai Namco has issued a “friendly PSA” urging players to defeat Mohg in time for the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. The entrance to the new DLC area will be located behind the arena where Mohg is fought, serving as a reminder to players to complete this crucial step before the release of the DLC on June 21st.

The path to accessing the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC in Elden Ring is fraught with challenges and hidden obstacles. Players must be prepared to face off against challenging bosses and navigate through difficult terrain to unlock the new content. With the release date fast approaching, now is the time for players to sharpen their skills, level up, and take on the formidable foes that stand in their way. Good luck, and may the Erdtree guide your journey through the Lands Between.
