Magic: The Gathering Arena, a digital adaptation of the classic trading card game, was launched in 2019. The game has been successful in making the game’s mechanics more accessible to newcomers, with HearthStone-style attack animations. Until now, the game has only been available for download from its own website. However, Wizards of the Coast recently announced that the game will be available on Steam from May 23rd.

Features of the Game

The Steam release of the game does not seem to offer any additional features. The game remains a trading card game that includes a tutorial, 15 unlockable decks, different game modes including Draft and Brawl, and cosmetics, card sleeves, and pets that can be obtained through daily rewards. The game also has an in-game store for purchasing items with real money. Magic: The Gathering Arena often receives new MtG card sets before they are released in physical form, with new sets often being announced months in advance. The deckbuilder returned to Innistrad earlier this year and will get crossovers with Assassin’s Creed and Final Fantasy in 2024.

Advantages of the Steam Release

The release of the game on Steam is a significant development. One advantage is that the game will be playable on the Steam Deck. While it is too early to say whether the game will receive Verified status, the fact that Arena is already available as a touchscreen iOS and Android app is an encouraging sign that its user interface and controls will be adaptable to Steam Deck’s handheld format.

A Game Worth Trying

Magic: The Gathering Arena may not be the most exciting news for gamers, given that it is already a free-to-play game. However, it is still worth trying out, especially for those who have not played the classic trading card game before. The game is already on the list of the best digital board games on PC, and the latest sets are receiving positive reviews from players and critics alike.
