The highly acclaimed action-RPG Stellar Blade, currently a PlayStation 5 exclusive, may soon be making its way to PC. Developers Shift Up have hinted at a possible PC release, in addition to teasing the development of a sequel to the game. Given the success of Stellar Blade on the PlayStation platform, it is not surprising that Shift Up is considering expanding its reach to PC. The studio’s latest financial report indicates that they are pleased with the sales performance of the game and see great potential in bringing it to more platforms.
By releasing Stellar Blade on multiple platforms, Shift Up aims to grow its user base and increase the number of game users. The financial report compares the game to popular titles like Nier Automata and Final Fantasy, highlighting the studio’s ambition to create successful multi-platform solutions for their future games. This strategy aligns with their previous experiences with titles such as Destiny Child and Victory: Nikke, which have achieved varying degrees of success on different platforms.
In addition to a possible Stellar Blade sequel, Shift Up is also working on a new game codenamed Project Witches. The studio plans to invest in other original intellectual properties (IP) as they look ahead to 2025. Project Witches is described as a new “subculture IP” that will be released on PC, console, and mobile platforms. However, the indication is that Project Witches will be a multi-platform gacha game, similar to Nikke, rather than a technically polished action-RPG like Stellar Blade.
Despite the anticipation surrounding Project Witches, there are concerns about whether it will live up to the success of Stellar Blade. The studio has expressed high expectations for the new IP, aiming for it to surpass the achievements of Nikke. However, some doubts remain about whether Project Witches will be able to deliver the same level of quality and engagement as its predecessor.
Having had the opportunity to experience Stellar Blade firsthand, it is clear that the game offers a solid and enjoyable action-packed experience. While it may not be as groundbreaking as Nier in terms of storytelling or as challenging as a Soulslike game, Stellar Blade strikes a satisfying balance between the two. However, concerns linger about the potential challenges that may arise with content moderation if the game does indeed make its way to PC.
While Shift Up’s plans for the future of Stellar Blade and their new projects are ambitious and promising, there are lingering doubts about whether they can replicate the success of their previous titles. Only time will tell if Stellar Blade will continue to shine on PC and if Project Witches will be able to carve out its own place in the gaming industry.
