The popular 3D platformer game Penny’s Big Breakaway received an update earlier this month for the PC version, and now the same update (with some additional features) has been rolled out for the Nintendo Switch. Developer Christian Whitehead has shared some insights into the new performance mode options introduced in the Switch version of the game.
According to Whitehead, the performance mode on the Switch will provide players with a smoother gameplay experience, aiming for 60 frames per second (fps) when docked, and a decent frame rate even in handheld mode. However, in areas with high geometric density, such as VanillaTown, the frame rate might drop to 40/30fps.
For those who prioritize a consistent and locked gaming experience, the quality mode will maintain a stable 30fps, similar to the previous version of the game, but with the added benefit of anti-aliasing for improved visual quality.
Unlocking the Frame Rate on Switch
When Penny’s Big Breakaway initially launched on consoles, it was limited to a 30fps frame rate. However, in the upcoming update, the Switch version of the game will have the frame rate restriction lifted, giving players the option to choose between 30fps and 60fps. While the performance may not always be perfectly smooth, as seen in Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, having the choice between frame rates is a welcome addition.
The new update will also introduce anti-aliasing to the 30fps mode, enhancing the overall visual clarity of the game. Although the console version of the patch is currently pending “first party approvals”, the recent PC patch notes can offer a glimpse into what players can expect from the upcoming Switch update.
Fixes and Improvements
Aside from the frame rate enhancements, the latest update for Penny’s Big Breakaway brings a variety of fixes and improvements to the game. Players can anticipate fixes for Penny and YoYo, as well as enhancements and repairs to existing gameplay features.
Some of the issues addressed in the recent patch include preventing Penny from getting stuck on wall ledges or falling infinitely in certain boss encounters. Additionally, improvements have been made to YoYo, such as better acceleration consistency in higher frame rates and more accurate sizing on ziplines.
The development team has also implemented repairs and upgrades to the in-game world, ensuring a smoother and more enjoyable gameplay experience for players. By addressing various bugs and glitches, Penny’s Big Breakaway aims to provide a more polished and refined gaming experience for its community of players.
The upcoming update for Penny’s Big Breakaway on the Nintendo Switch introduces new performance mode options, unlocks the frame rate restrictions, and implements fixes and improvements to enhance the overall gameplay experience. Players can look forward to a more refined and enjoyable gaming experience with these latest enhancements.
