League of Geeks, the studio behind the remake of the cult strategy game Solium Infernum, has announced that the release date will be pushed back by one week. Originally scheduled for February 14th, the game will now launch on February 22nd. This news may be disappointing for some, as there is a certain appeal to spending a romantic Valentine’s night-in, attempting to backstab your significant other in a bid to rule hell in Satan’s absence. However, the delay is necessary to ensure that the game is as polished as possible before its release.
The decision to delay the release of Solium Infernum seems to be influenced by player feedback from the game’s recent multiplayer playtest weekend. In a blog post on Steam, the developers revealed that over 4000 players participated in the playtest, engaging in over 400 matches during the three-day test period. This intensive testing process unearthed several issues that require immediate attention before the game can be launched.
The playtest weekend highlighted three major areas of concern: the game’s tutorial, its stability, and its performance. While the tutorial was successful in conveying the core mechanics of the game, it was found to be prone to breaking. This was particularly problematic for new players who encountered bugs early on, hindering their understanding and enjoyment of the game. The developers acknowledge that this is far from ideal and are working to address these issues.
In addition to the tutorial, the team at League of Geeks is setting “very aggressive targets for stability”. They also recognize that performance is of utmost importance and assure players that the game’s performance at launch will be significantly improved compared to its pre-release state.
Despite the delay, early impressions of Solium Infernum have been positive. Members of the RPS Treehouse, including myself, had the opportunity to plot and scheme against each other during an asynchronous multiplayer match prior to the public playtest. The full game will offer a variety of gameplay modes, including regular real-time multiplayer matches, single-player Chronicles episodes, and a Skirmish mode.
As we draw closer to the revised release date, there is much to ponder. Among the members of the RPS Treehouse, who would emerge victorious in a game of Solium Infernum? Additionally, which of the eight Arch Fiends in the game best represents each member of the team?
While the delay may be disappointing for eager fans, it is clear that League of Geeks is dedicated to delivering a polished and enjoyable gaming experience. The feedback from the multiplayer playtest has been invaluable in identifying and addressing issues. With enhanced stability and performance, Solium Infernum’s release is poised to be a significant improvement over its pre-release state.
