Damon Lindelof, the screenwriter known for his work on TV shows like Lost and the new Peacock show Mrs. Davis, shared in an interview with Esquire that he was “asked to leave” the Star Wars universe. Last year, rumors circulated that Lindelof was developing a new Star Wars movie. However, in March, Variety reported that he left the project, and when Disney announced its three new Star Wars films earlier this month, Lindelof was not attached to any of them.

Lindelof revealed, “I was in more than talks to join the Star Wars universe. I joined the Star Wars universe. I was asked to leave the Star Wars universe.” The screenwriter had been working on a film with Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who directed two episodes of Ms. Marvel and is helming one of the three new movies. Obaid-Chinoy’s movie follows the story of Rey Skywalker, portrayed once again by Daisy Ridley, as she works to build a new Jedi Order.

Future Prospects

Despite his departure from the Star Wars universe, Lindelof seems open to working on the franchise in the future. He explained, “Will I get back in line outside the club and try to get back in again? Of course. [Star Wars] was the alpha and the omega. It’s the first movie I saw in a movie theater. I love all of the storytelling in that world. If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. Or again, again, try, as Yoda would say.” Lindelof’s passion for the Star Wars franchise is evident, and his willingness to try again in the future is a testament to his determination and perseverance.

In conclusion, Damon Lindelof’s experience in the Star Wars universe was brief but memorable. Despite being asked to leave the franchise, he remains a fan of the storytelling and seems eager to try again in the future. It will be interesting to see if he is given another opportunity to work in the Star Wars universe and what creative ideas he will bring to the table.
