Steam, the popular digital PC storefront, has released its annual end-of-year charts, revealing the games that have generated the most revenue. The list includes both expected chart-toppers and surprise hits. Unlike previous years, Valve, the company behind Steam, has categorized the games into platinum, gold, silver, and bronze tiers, rather than ranking them in specific order. Among the platinum tier games are Baldur’s Gate 3, Starfield, Hogwarts Legacy, and Sons of the Forest. These titles have not only been top sellers but have also gained massive popularity among the player base.

In addition to the top-selling games, Valve also recognizes the most-played titles of the year. The games that have crossed 300,000 concurrent Steam players are included in this category. Alongside the perennial favorites like Destiny 2, PUBG, Counter-Strike 2, Apex Legends, Dota 2, and Goose Goose Duck, Baldur’s Gate 3 has dominated the charts. This game has appeared in every category except for the best-performing VR games, which is not surprising considering the nature of the game. Starfield, another highly anticipated title, has also made a significant impact, appearing in both the most-played controller and Steam Deck games lists. Microsoft has high hopes for Starfield to follow in the footsteps of Skyrim, which continues to be a top-seller despite its age in the gaming industry.

Apart from the standout performers, there are several other games that deserve recognition for their success in 2023. Star Wars Jedi Survivor, Street Fighter 6, Resident Evil 4 Remake, EA Sports FC, Remnant 2, Armored Core 6, Payday 3, and Cities Skylines 2 have all garnered popularity and positive reviews from players. Additionally, several titles that were in the early access phase graduated to the platinum tier. Baldur’s Gate 3, My Time At Sandrock, Disney Dreamlight Valley, Marvel Snap, Ready Or Not, Sun Haven, Everspace 2, Wartales, Dave The Diver, Demonologist, Against The Storm, and Farlight 84 have all made a successful transition and gained recognition for their achievements.

In the virtual reality (VR) category, Beat Saber, Blade & Sorcery, Pavlov, VTOL VR, Into The Radius, Bone Lab, Ghosts Of Tabor, Gorilla Tag, Fight Nights At Freddy’s: Help Wanted 2, Half-Life: Alyx, and Skyrim VR have all reached platinum status. These games offer immersive experiences and have managed to captivate VR enthusiasts throughout the year.

The top-performing games on Steam in 2023 have not only generated substantial revenue but have also made a lasting impact on the gaming community. From established franchises like Baldur’s Gate and Starfield to new releases such as Sons of the Forest, these games have captured the attention and support of players worldwide. With continued support and updates, these titles are expected to maintain their popularity in the coming year.
