General Motors (GM) has recently made the decision to halt sales of the Chevy Blazer EV due to reports of significant problems. Chevy’s communications executive director, Chad Lyons, stated, “Our team is working swiftly to implement a solution, and owners will be contacted with instructions on how to schedule their update.” Scott Bell, the vice president of Chevrolet, affirmed that customer satisfaction is their top priority and emphasized the need for a temporary pause on new deliveries. Although GM did not disclose the exact number, they mentioned that the issue affects a limited number of vehicles.
For Edmunds, the troubles began just two months after obtaining a 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV RS AWD for their long-term test fleet. After running a diagnostic test, they were taken aback by the results – a staggering 23 fault codes were detected. A representative from Edmunds expressed their concern by stating, “What we received from the dealer was deeply concerning: the longest list of major faults we’ve ever encountered in a new car.”
The Blazer EV’s issues extended beyond Edmunds’ experience. Kevin Williams, a writer for InsideEVs, encountered a series of mishaps during his weeklong test drive. The vehicle’s infotainment system, which lacked both CarPlay and Android Auto, suddenly went blank while he was driving. Additionally, an attempt to charge the battery resulted in a frustrating “Service Vehicle Soon” error message. Unfortunately, Williams’ entire test drive was cut short after just 28 hours.
The reports of these major faults with the Blazer EV raise concerns about the vehicle’s reliability and quality control. For a brand-new electric vehicle, these issues are particularly disheartening. GM must act swiftly and effectively to address the problems at hand. The company’s reputation is at stake, and their customers deserve a vehicle that lives up to their expectations.
