Fortnite players were taken aback when Psyonix’s Rocket Racing game debuted with strikingly high prices for its cosmetics. However, in response to the feedback received, Epic Games has now made the decision to permanently lower the prices on all Rocket Racing cars. This move comes as a pleasant surprise to the community and demonstrates Epic’s willingness to listen and evolve.
In a significant reversal, the uncommon (green) rarity Rocket Racing cars will now be priced at 1,500 V-Bucks, down from the initial 2,500 V-Bucks. Similarly, the rare (blue) Rocket Racing cars, previously priced at 4,000 V-Bucks, will now be available for 2,500 V-Bucks. The adjustment in pricing reflects a more reasonable cost for players, as the initial prices were deemed exorbitant.
It is worth noting that the Diesel car, the only rare car currently available in the shop, held the title of being the priciest major cosmetic in Fortnite. With a price of 4,000 V-Bucks, the Diesel car translated to approximately $30 or more, depending on various factors. The downward adjustment in price addresses the community’s concerns surrounding the high costs associated with this specific cosmetic item.
In addition, players who have already purchased the Rocket Racing cars prior to the price adjustment will be compensated for the difference within a week, according to Epic Games. This gesture showcases Epic’s commitment to ensuring fairness and customer satisfaction.
What makes this pricing adjustment particularly notable is its rarity within the Fortnite ecosystem. Epic Games rarely alters the V-Buck prices of any cosmetics, making this the first instance of such action that has come to public attention. While the standard prices of items in Fortnite have decreased over the years, with skins now priced at 2,000 V-Bucks only on select occasions like collaboration events (e.g., Goku skin), the direct adjustment of old item prices had not been implemented previously.
Instead of altering the prices directly, Epic Games traditionally offers great value to players by bundling expensive old items with generous new bundles such as the remarkable Alien Abduction bundle. This strategy allows Epic to introduce lower-priced options while still satisfying the demand for exclusive and premium cosmetics.
In addition to the Rocket Racing game, a rhythm game called Fortnite Festival was also released recently, featuring its own selection of cosmetics. Notably, the Fortnite Festival cosmetics include a 1500-V-Buck guitar, which has raised questions about its pricing. Thus far, Epic Games has not announced any plans to adjust the prices of these Festival cosmetics, leaving players curious about their cost on the marketplace.
