The Finals, a highly anticipated game, was officially launched during The Game Awards on Thursday night. Since its release, the game has gained immense popularity, building upon the success of its open beta last month. However, amidst the positive reception, some players have expressed their discontent with the perceived slower player movement in the final version compared to the beta. But according to the developers, there have been no changes made to the movement system. They are currently investigating why players are experiencing a difference in movement speed.

Embark Studios, the developer of The Finals, acknowledges the feedback from the community and is determined to address the issue. A community manager from Embark Studios stated on The Finals Discord server, “We have been investigating your feedback on the feel of the movement from Open Beta to now. It’s been hard to pinpoint because there was no change in the movement system or the movement speed between the two tests. But in our research, we believe we may have found the problem.”

According to Embark Studios, they have identified several factors that might contribute to the perception of slower movement in the game. Over the past month, they have made small adjustments to animations, sounds, and settings. While these changes may seem insignificant individually, they may collectively affect the overall gameplay experience, particularly in the light and medium archetypes. Additionally, the settings were reset, defaulting the Field of View (FOV) to 71, which can significantly impact the way the game feels.

Embark Studios recommends players to check and modify their FOV settings, as it can potentially improve the game’s movement experience. Furthermore, they are actively working on “rebalancing some of the changes” to restore the movement to its original feel.

The situation faced by The Finals is not uncommon in the world of gaming. Often, player feedback misidentifies the cause of an issue, highlighting the impact that audio and visual elements can have on gameplay. An illustrative example can be found in Enemy Territory: Wolfenstein, where players mistakenly believed that one team’s machinegun was more powerful than its counterpart. In reality, the statistics for each weapon were identical. However, upon further investigation, Splash Damage, the developers, discovered that the sound effect of one machinegun created an illusion of greater power, leading players to engage more aggressively and achieve more kills.

Apart from the player movement issue, The Finals has encountered other quirks during its launch. Some players have experienced server issues, hindering matchmaking and causing disconnects during matches. Additionally, there is an ongoing problem with error code TFLA0004, which prevents players from accessing the gameplay altogether. Recognizing the significance of these issues, Embark Studios is diligently investigating the root causes and working towards swift resolutions.

The Finals has garnered substantial attention since its launch, with players eagerly exploring the game. However, the issue of perceived slower player movement has been a cause for concern. Embark Studios is committed to addressing this matter by thoroughly investigating the feedback and making necessary adjustments. The impact of audio and visual elements on player perception cannot be underestimated, as demonstrated by past experiences in the gaming industry.

Moreover, the launch quirks faced by The Finals, including server issues and Error code TFLA0004, are being actively investigated and resolved by the development team. As the game progresses, it is essential for developers and players alike to collaborate in addressing any arising issues and ensuring a seamless and enjoyable gaming experience. Stay tuned for our upcoming review of The Finals later this week.
