After almost a quarter of a century, fans of the nineties sci-fi adventure game, Outcast, are about to get their hands on the long-awaited sequel. Outcast 2: A New Beginning is set to continue the story that left players hanging in 1999. Despite the significant time gap, newcomers need not worry – the developers promise that anyone can jump into the game, even if they are unfamiliar with the original.

The journey to creating the sequel has been a tumultuous one. Outcast 2 was initially announced back in 2021, but it has since dropped the numerical suffix and is now simply known as Outcast: A New Beginning. This decision was likely made to attract a wider audience, including those who have not played the original Outcast or the 2017 remake, Outcast: Second Contact.

The team behind Outcast: A New Beginning comprises some of the original members, including the director and composer. They aim to deliver a more self-aware and contemplative experience this time around, deviating from the conventional open-world formula. Players will find themselves taking care of the alien habitat and assisting the indigenous inhabitants, known as Talans. Gradually, players will learn to communicate with these creatures, earning their trust and unlocking new abilities to combat the robotic invaders.

One exciting addition to the gameplay is the jetpack, which offers players a newfound sense of mobility. Additionally, unlike many modern open-world games, Outcast: A New Beginning boasts a campaign lasting approximately 35 hours. This shorter duration ensures that players can experience the entirety of the game without feeling overwhelmed or burnt out.

Appeal Studio, the developers of the Outcast series, have announced that the highly anticipated sequel will be released on March 15th next year. As a teaser for what’s to come, they have also released a combat trailer featuring Cutter Slade, the protagonist, fiercely fighting off alien worms and robots while exclaiming catchphrases like “I smell a nice upgrade coming up” and “Mmm, special item.”

With the announcement of the sequel and the compelling combat trailer, there is a sense of anticipation and hope surrounding Outcast: A New Beginning. The combination of a dedicated development team and the nostalgic appeal of the original game makes it an exciting prospect for both long-time fans and newcomers alike.

As the release date draws closer, fans can only speculate on what the future holds for Cutter Slade and the alien planet of Adelpha. Will Outcast: A New Beginning live up to the expectations set by its predecessor? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain – next spring, gaming enthusiasts will be eagerly awaiting the chance to embark on a new adventure in the Outcast universe.
