This time, the focus is on the pricing and full specifications for Nvidia’s rumored RTX 40 Super GPUs, specifically the RTX 4080 Super, RTX 4070 Super, and the somewhat perplexing RTX 4070 Ti Super. While all of this information should be taken with a grain of salt, the proposed lineup does make sense and provides a framework for considering the potential impact that these Super GPUs might have on the existing RTX 40 cards.
Leading the pack is the RTX 4080 Super. According to the leak, this GPU will stick with the existing AD103 die, rather than receiving an upgrade to the AD102 monster used for the RTX 4090. The RTX 4080 Super is expected to boast an impressive 10,240 cores, run on a 256-bit bus, and be equipped with 16GB of GDDR6X memory. In contrast, the regular RTX 4080 features 9,728 cores. The most notable aspect of the RTX 4080 Super is its attractive price tag of $999, which is $200 less than the launch price of the RTX 4080.
Next up is the slightly peculiar-sounding RTX 4070 Ti Super. This GPU will reportedly make the switch from the AD104 chip used in the existing RTX 4070 Ti to the AD103 chip. Finally, we have the RTX 4070 Super, which sticks with the AD104 chip, a 192-bit bus, and 12GB of memory. However, the core count is boosted to 7,168 from the non-Super variant’s 5,888 cores. In terms of performance boosts, the RTX 4080 Super is predicted to offer a modest 6-9% increase, which may not be noticeable to the average user. Nevertheless, the lower price point compared to the RTX 4080 at launch makes it an appealing option. The RTX 4070 Ti Super is expected to deliver up to a 22% performance boost compared to the RTX 4070 Ti, without a significant price increase. Additionally, the RTX 4070 Super is projected to offer performance nearing that of the RTX 4070 Ti for a considerably lower cost.
While these leaked specifications seem plausible and are likely to align with Nvidia’s future offerings, they are not a groundbreaking improvement in terms of performance-per-dollar. Although there are improvements, they may not be substantial enough to convince users to upgrade from their existing RTX 40 cards.
