From October 19th, Xbox widgets in the Game Bar will include a “Game accessibility” settings menu. This menu will enable players to access visual and audio-related accessibility controls, allowing them to customize their gaming experience according to their specific needs. By integrating these accessibility options directly into the Game Bar, Microsoft is taking a crucial step towards making gaming more inclusive on PC.

Microsoft’s commitment to accessibility is also evident in several of their game titles. Forza Motorsport, Sea of Thieves, and Age of Empires IV have all received notable accessibility updates. Forza Motorsport, in particular, stands out with its range of features targeted specifically towards disabled gamers. These features include one touch driving, screen narration, text-to-speech capabilities, and “Blind Driving Assists” designed for players who are blind or have low vision. The implementation of audio cues in racing games is a significant step towards making them more accessible for visually impaired individuals.

Sony, too, has recognized the importance of accessibility in gaming and has introduced new, accessibility-focused controllers for disabled gamers. With both Microsoft and Sony taking concrete steps towards increasing inclusivity, the gaming industry as a whole can benefit from these initiatives.
