The gaming world has been buzzing with excitement as a new Elder Scrolls game has been released. However, the disappointment quickly settled in when fans realized that it was not the highly anticipated Elder Scrolls VI, but rather another spin-off mobile game. The Elder Scrolls: Castles is a spiritual sequel to Bethesda’s popular property sim Fallout Shelter, but this time set in the Tamriel universe. While Fallout Shelter focused on underground Vaults, this new game allows players to build and decorate their own medieval castles.
Currently available for download on Android, The Elder Scrolls: Castles is in its early access form. However, it is unfortunate that the game is only accessible in the United States at the time of writing. In this game, players can add rooms, monuments, and strategically position their subjects to ensure the growth and prosperity of their kingdom. Players will encounter familiar Elder Scrolls races, such as Argonians, and have the opportunity to hire and train warriors with unique Elder Scrolls abilities. Unlike previous games in the franchise, the focus of this game is on management rather than being the hero.
Although the game appears to be delightful, there is one aspect that leaves fans wanting more. The art direction of The Elder Scrolls: Castles does not fully capture the beloved Skyrim aesthetic. Instead, it closely resembles the art style of My Time At Portia, another popular game. Fans believe that the developers missed an opportunity to incorporate the visually striking in-game lorebooks from the Elder Scrolls series into the art direction. It is possible that the artistic direction could be improved in future updates, but for now, it falls short of expectations.
As history has shown, The Elder Scrolls: Castles will likely find its way to PC after spending some time in the mobile gaming realm. However, fans are eagerly anticipating the release of The Elder Scrolls VI. Unfortunately, according to Phil Spencer, the Thane of Xbox, the highly demanded RPG is still at least five years away. In fact, he stated that the release is so far in the future that it is difficult to predict what platforms will even exist by then. This news has left many fans disappointed and longing for more information about the upcoming installment.
While The Elder Scrolls: Castles offers an enjoyable experience for mobile gaming enthusiasts, it is not the game fans have been eagerly anticipating. The art direction could use some improvement to fully capture the essence of the Elder Scrolls universe. As for the release of The Elder Scrolls VI, fans will have to exercise patience as it is still a long way off. The hope for a new, immersive Elder Scrolls adventure remains, but for now, fans will have to make do with spin-off games and wait patiently for the next chapter in this beloved franchise.
