Without investing in the Security skill, your ability to unlock novice-level locks is limited, and the rewards behind these barriers may not be worth the effort. While you can initially ignore this skill, tougher spaceship dogfights will eventually require you to have a high Piloting rank. Ranks 3 and 4 enable you to pilot Class B and Class C ships, which are larger, faster, equipped with better weapons, and boast increased cargo space.
