Samsung has recently announced that it will be bringing Auracast, a groundbreaking technology that allows for the sharing of high-quality audio with an “unlimited” number of devices, to its Galaxy Buds 2 Pro and its newest Neo QLED 8K and MicroLED TVs. This exciting development is set to roll out starting in September and has the potential to revolutionize the way we experience audio.
While Samsung has not clarified if there will be a cap on the number of Galaxy Buds that can connect to the TVs, it is certain that the limit of two currently in place will be surpassed. However, it is important to note that factors such as range and physical interference will still play a role in determining how many earbuds can successfully connect to the TV. After all, Auracast relies on wireless data transmission, which can be affected by external factors.
Auracast is made possible by Bluetooth LE Audio, a standard that was introduced last year. LE Audio utilizes the new LC3 codec, which allows for the transmission of significantly higher-quality audio at the same bit rate offered by the older SBC codec. Earlier this year, Samsung leveraged LE Audio to introduce a new feature that enables the recording of binaural audio for videos captured on modern Galaxy phones. With this feature, when users begin recording a video on their Galaxy Z Fold 4 or Galaxy S23, the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro automatically start recording with the microphones on both sides of the user’s head. This creates a 360-degree sound stage, enhancing the audio immersion of videos.
Seamless Bluetooth Connectivity
LE Audio also brings forth a more seamless Bluetooth connectivity experience. Instead of the traditional method of manually pairing devices, LE Audio offers a connection process similar to connecting to a Wi-Fi network. This can be achieved through methods such as QR codes, NFC, or other potential approaches. As a result, users can easily join Auracast broadcasts in public spaces or gyms and enjoy music or announcements through their Bluetooth headphones.
Multipoint Connection Method
Samsung has not specified which method it will employ to connect multiple Bluetooth headphones. However, the introduction of Auracast opens up possibilities for a multipoint connection method, allowing multiple devices to connect simultaneously. This could greatly enhance the convenience and flexibility of audio sharing.
